Merrill: "Would you say my welcome from Cabot Alden was a little chilly?"
Policeman: "And I'll take that too, Ms. Vochek. So we can hear what shes already told you." (taking away tape recorder).
Merrill: "Don't upset the police! Don't upset the powers that be at the university! Don't upset Roger Forbes! You're really telling me not to do my job, Sam!"
Merrill: "How could I have been naive enough to trust you? Well, you can let it go, Mr. President, because it might impair your next political campaign, or tarnish your sterling reputation. When you finally get to that big White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, I hope you find it was worth the trip!"
Douglas: "Oh, not at all. I think that icy stare was a feeble attempt at covering up the pure lust that was tearing him limb from limb the moment he laid eyes on you." (They laugh).
Merrill: "You'll hear that I've been right all along about Lois Karney and I just hope you'll do something about it before other girls end up the same way!"
Sam: "Oh, come on."
Merrill: "Not report the news as I see it?"
Sam: "Will you be fair? Who has been your champion around this place since the time you started out as a gopher?"
Merrill: "You have, Sam. I am grateful. But I'm not grateful enough to forget about a young woman that ended up dead in a motel room because she trusted me and asked for my help!"
