This movie is based on a true story. Brianne's husband, Clay, is dangerous and violent. When he sees a man talking to Brianne at a bar, he becomes enraged and later shoots and kills him. Clay then convinces Brianne to say she was the one who shot the man by accident. Both of them are found guilty and receive life sentences in prison. Brianne wants her sister Margaret (played by Patricia) to watch her daughter Lily. Clay, however, wants his mother to watch Lily instead. Brianne fears Lily will be unhappy with Clay's cold and strict mother. She later learns an important truth about her past, which changes the situation, and eventually causes her to make a decision about her sentencing.
